In reply to Diane Brown. I'm sorry to hear about the nasty phone call Diane, but do not let that bother you too much. As you said, the lady might have had a bad day. I'm sure the rest of the responses will be more positive. The amount of personalization and the tone of your letter is very dependent on your audience. For the finances and insurance field it might need to be a bit more formal tone and less personalization than for example writing a warm letter to a group of mom entrepreneurs :).

Love this article! I started doing this and the rest is on my dining room table. My first 20 went out to a volunteer group I work with and I actually received a nasty phone message from one lady. She must have been having a bad day. My letter was very warm and non-invasive – just used our connection and she didn’t like that.

My question is: I want to do a form letter. How much personalization should I use?

Thank you so much Francis, you really are helping me. I’ve been struggling for about a year now in my field of finances and insurance – not an easy area to break into.
